Ailey II dance company from New York City will perform in Ketchikan on Wednesday, February 13th, at 7:30pm, at Kayhi Auditorium. This highly-trained dance company merges the spirit and energy of the country's best young talent with the passion and creative vision of today's most outstanding emerging choreographers. The Arts Council and Ketchikan Theatre Ballet are very proud to present Ailey II, formed in 1974 as the repertory ensemble of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, one of the most famous and artistically influential dance companies in the world. While in Ketchikan, Ailey II will conduct programs with more than 230 local dancers, and will perform for the public with a full performance at Kayhi on Feb 13th. Reviews of Ailey II agree that the youthfulness and intensity of these charismatic dancers radiates in this year's exhilarating and varied repertoire of 14 works by seasoned choreographers and emerging talents. Ray Troll's Sharkabet slide show and book launch/signing will take place on Friday, February 15th, at 6pm, at Parnassus Bookstore, upstairs in the Star building at #5 Creek Street. Sharkabet: a Sea of Sharks from A to Z is the latest children's book from Ketchikan artist Ray Troll. Ray will give a slide show on the art from the book and the fascinating world of living and prehistoric sharks. While geared to children, the book should appeal to anyone with an interest in these ancient denizens of the deep. This is the "o-fish-al" start of a national tour for Ray. "We photograph anything, anywhere" is an exhibition
of photographs taken in the 1920s and 30s by Elliot Fisher. This
exhibition of about 70 photographs will feature a wide variety
of photographic styles and techniques, demonstrating the versatility
and ingenuity of this local photographer who indeed seemed to
photograph everything, everywhere. Also on exhibit will be a
selection of newly discovered, century-old glass plate images
by Benjamin Haldane, a Metlakatla photographer, whose work spans
from 1890 1930. The exhibit will run through Sunday, April
14th. Meetings and Gatherings: Parlons Chez Nous. This group, formed for people who enjoy speaking French, meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month. The Feb 13th meeting will celebrate Mardi Gras with a crepe potluck. The Ketchikan Watercolor Society meets on the first Saturday of the month, from 2-4pm at the First Lutheran Church Annex.
