Elizabeth Peratrovich Day Celebrations Planned

Ketchikan - Elizabeth Peratrovich Day, and the celebrations surrounding this significant day, are planned for Saturday, February 16, 2002. Activities will be hosted by the Alaska Native Brotherhood and Alaska Native Sisterhood, Ketchikan ­ Camp 14 and Saxman ­ Camp 15.

Events commemorating Elizabeth Peratrovich will take place at the Plaza Mall with a parade starting at 12:30 p.m. and a program starting at 1:00 p.m. The parade will feature the finest of Brotherhood and Sisterhood members displaying "kugeinaa", banners, and hats worn for the importance of this occasion and will be led by Parade Sergeant Albert Ketah and Joe Williams, III as Parade Songster.

Upon conclusion of the indoor/outdoor Plaza Mall parade, the Elizabeth Peratrovich program will commence with a kaleidoscope tribute to Elizabeth Peratrovich, including a biography, a senate gallery skit, and musical talent by the "Voices of Experience". The event is planned, in part, by the Elizabeth Planning Committee and co-chaired by Cynthia Llanos and Winona Wallace.

The Alaska Native Brotherhood and Alaska Native Sisterhood encourage interested individuals to join the parade and the program. Should a person desire to join the parade, they are encouraged to wear traditional regalia.

A window display acknowledging & honoring Elizabeth Peratrovich has been installed at the Plaza mall (center court).
