Tolerance.org, an Internet project
of the Southern Poverty Law Center, currently is featuring the
report of the Governor's Commission on Tolerance. "Congratulations
on your work," Tolerance.org writer and editor Kelvin Datcher
told the Alaska Governor's Office. "We would like to send
copies of your guide to every governor in America."
The feature-length article,
available at www.tolerance.org,
begins: "It was a sight Tony Knowles could not get out of
his mind: a self-narrated home video of three young white men
driving through Anchorage looking for fun, and for Alaska Natives."
That was January 2001 and Gov. Knowles soon created the 14-member
commission, which late last year published its groundbreaking
report and recommendations to fight injustice in Alaska.
