This morning's planned interview by the Ketchikan Borough Assembly of two candidates for the Ketchikan Borough Manager's position did not go forward as scheduled after it was announced that Tom Briggs of Craig, AK, had withdrawn his name from consideration. One of the two scheduled candidates to be interviewed for the position, Mike Houts, was present for the special meeting/work session.

Following a discussion, the Assembly Members voted to re-advertise the Ketchikan Borough's Manager's position. A decision was made to advertise nationwide. This process will take approximately five weeks.

The Assembly Members agreed that the five individuals who applied for the Ketchikan Borough Manager's position during the last advertisement period would not be required to re-apply and their applications would all be considered.

Houts was given the opportunity by the Assembly to be interviewed this morning as scheduled; however, Houts stated that he would wait for the next interview session.

Members commented that they heard Briggs withdrew because he liked living in Craig and Briggs and his family decided they didn't want to move.

Absent from today's special meeting/work session were Assembly Member Mike Salazar and Borough Mayor Jack Shay.
