Early Morning Fire Causes Death & Injury

Ketchikan - An early morning fire in a lower-level rental apartment in Ketchikan has tragically caused the death of one man and injury to another.

A Ketchikan Fire Department staff person stated in a telephone interview this afternoon that Aaron Boyd lost his life in the early morning fire and that Eric Packard was injured. Packard was transported to Ketchikan General Hospital. The ages of Boyd and Packard were not available.

The Ketchikan Fire Department received the first call notifying them of the fire at 2:27 am Thursday morning and responded to the scene.

The fire was located at 1305 Water Street and reported to have started in the living room area of the lower-level rental apartment. The cause of the fire was stated to be accidental.

As of late this afternoon Eric Packard was in the intensive care unit at Ketchikan General Hospital; however, hospital staff have not been authorized to release any information on his status.

Mike Moyer is reported to be the property owner.
