The schedule will be mailed to all southern southeast residents in early August. The semester starts September 3. Course registrations are currently being taken. Students who have taken courses in the past 12 months can register by automated phone or on the web. Courses this fall include a wide variety of programs including a new Forest Technology Program as well as the Fisheries Technology Program which began in the Spring. Both programs are 2-year programs designed to provide necessary skills and knowledge in each respective field allowing students the ability to work in technician-level employment. Both programs feature a great deal of hands-on learning and internship possibilities. The Certified Public Manager Program is offering evening courses. New managers and supervisors learn knowledge and tools that can be used immediately. The program is a 3-level, state-wide, nationally recognized management training program. CISCO Networking Academy I will also be offered in the evening this fall. UAS Ketchikan is a certified CISCO Networking Academy. The four-semester program teaches participants everything they need to know in networking computers. It also allows them to qualify for the CISCO Networking Associate Exam upon successful completion of the program. Both French and Spanish will be offered this semester. A wide variety of computer software, accounting, business, English, math and science courses will also be available. Individuals interested in the upcoming University of Alaska Anchorage nursing program should begin taking prerequisite courses and several will be offered including Chemistry, Human Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology, Psychology and other numerous electives. Trade and technical programs include an intensive 12 credit AWS Welding course; a variety of specific welding courses; marine operation courses including Basic Safety training, 100-Ton Vessel Commercial License Preparation and Radar Observer; Private Pilot Ground School; several certification and recertifications in hazardous materials; and Computer Drafting courses. The University of Alaska Southeast Ketchikan Campus provides a wide variety of educational and vocational courses throughout the year. Many course offerings are available both locally and through distance avenues including web-based, audio conference, teleconference and satellite offerings. Through these offerings, students can achieve certifications, associates, bachelors and masters degrees.
