Lance Mertz who prepared the news release stated the new security requirements make it necessary for passengers to process through the screening checkpoint much earlier than before. The current screening checkpoint and waiting area is too small and has no restrooms, making it impractical for the longer dwell times passengers are experiencing. Under the new change, once passengers have cleared screening they have the entire second floor available while waiting to board the aircraft, including the restrooms, snack bar, lounge, gift shop, and coffee shop. This temporary modification
will eventually be replaced in the terminal renovation project.
Under the renovation, a second elevator will be installed near
the main stairwell, and the screening checkpoint will be located
near the access points for the main stairwell and new elevator.
