The three-credit course introduces participants to the principles of computer and information security. The course is designed for individuals who have had an introduction to networking concepts, specifically TCP/IP protocols. Participants will learn the skills necessary to keep information secure over networks and the internet. The course will be taught over the internet. Participants must have access to e-mail and the Internet. Course syllabus, assignments, interaction with the professor and other students will all be conducted over the internet through UAS Online and CAUCUS, the University of Alaska Southeast web-based distance delivery computer system. The course will have specific deadlines and requirements regarding interaction and course discussion. Instructor Eric Hummel is an assistant professor of computer information and office systems. He also teaches CISCO Networking Academy courses. UAS Ketchikan is a certified CISCO Networking Academy.
