Lorton acknowledged the United States Coast Guard women who were present and thanked them for keeping the seas safe.

Deborah Lorton broke through the glass ceiling
on the Alaska Marine Highway to become the first woman to rise
through the ranks from the seward's department and through the
deck department, to become a licensed deck officer on the bridge
where she currently works as a mate. It hasn't been easy, but
she has earned the respect of her shipmates.
