2002 Phenomenal Women Awards
Gertrude Johnson Honored

 

Gertrude Johnson was one of the first Alaska Natives to teach school in Ketchikan. She is fluent in speaking the Tsimshian language and has been a tireless volunteer to the preservation of Alaska Native history and culture in Ketchikan.

Gertrude raised three children and has been active in helping raise her grandchildren after the death of her daughter.

She was unable to attend the Phenomenal Women Awards event.
